Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress that works in the fields of film, television and theatre. She's best known as Teri Joe, a fiery lawyer from the Showtime program Soul Food. In the years following her marriage the actress is now known as Nikki Kodjoe. As a child, she was a naturally talented actor. In a Maryland contest for high school students she won the award for the best Actress. Her acting diploma was earned at New York University after working at 'The Washington Ballet Company' and in theatre. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love, her debut role in a film of major importance, earned her a lot of respect. Then came movies like "Boogie Nights Spark" and Blue Streak. Her appearance on the television series Soul Food' was immensely loved. She also appeared in TV shows like Second Time Around' and Empire. In the beginning of her career she was in numerous stage productions. Parker is also involved in politics, is married to model and actor Boris Kodjoe. They have two kids together.
Contractor was born from Mumbai in India she was raised in Nigeria from the time she was seven. She had already experienced a lot of travel and cultures from a young age. She was educated in an boarding school in London between the ages of 7 and 9 years. Then, the family moved to London in Toronto, Canada. Contractor had a great academic career throughout her time in Toronto and also trained as the ballerina. In the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public school for high schools that is specialized in arts) the student studied dance and theatre. Contractor aged 16 at the time she realized that acting would be her career. She had danced for a decade. When she graduated from high-school, she was offered an all-inclusive tuition grant to the University of Toronto where she pursued theatre studies with a double diploma in sociology and psychology. After a single semester at the University, Contractor went to an audition on a call-to-action basis for the play Pericles in the highly regarded and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and landed the leading role. Her performance was lauded for the 92 shows which she was a part of. She won the award in 2002 for the Best Production of the Year by Canadian critics. Contractor was given the chance to enroll in Stratford's conservatory program, where the top eight men and four women are accepted for a course lasting 20 weeks on the classical stage that she gladly accepted. Contractor got a confirmed spot for the following season and was given the role as Hermia.
